Trailside Herbs makes functional herbal tinctures for life outdoors.

Herbs, herbal medicines, and plants have long sustained people through movement and migration. Native plants encountered along the way are learned, trusted, and carried forward with the traditions that surround them.

This is about quiet, functional support that respects the body's own rhythms and the long traditions of plant use that preceded us. We believe good herbalism doesn't shout — it simply works, reliably, batch after batch.

    Why We Make This

Bikepackers, through-hikers, open-water swimmers, and long-distance runners often share something in common: a heightened awareness of what they put into their bodies, and a desire for support that feels earned rather than engineered.

We started Trailside Herbs because we couldn't find herbal products that spoke to this community — tinctures that were functional without being clinical, grounded in tradition without being mystical, and designed specifically for the rhythms of outdoor effort and recovery.

Our products are made for the moments before and after movement: the early morning ritual before you clip in, the quiet wind-down after a long day on the trail. They're designed to fit into a life where simplicity matters, and where equipment — including what you carry in your body — needs to be reliable.

    A Functional Approach to Herbs

Each tincture is designed with a clear purpose: Rally for the start of the day, Root for the end. They're not cure-alls or miracle formulas — just thoughtfully combined herbs that have been used for centuries to support focus, calm, recovery, and rest.

We believe in marginal gains drawn from traditional practice: small, reliable effects that compound over time, supporting the body rather than overriding it. Our formulations are informed by historical use, contemporary herbalism, and the practical needs of people who move through the world under their own power.

    Sourcing & Making

We source herbs from UK growers wherever possible, prioritising organic and sustainably harvested plants. Our tinctures are made in small batches, allowing us to maintain quality and respond to seasonal availability.

Every batch is tested and traceable. We work slowly and deliberately, preferring to make less and make it well rather than scale beyond what we can personally oversee. This isn't a volume business — it's a craft, and we treat it as such.

    Access Matters

We believe herbal support shouldn't be a luxury. That's why we offer a sliding-scale pricing model: pay what you can, based on your circumstances. No questions asked, no proof required.

If you're in a position to pay full price, you're helping subsidise access for someone who isn't. If you need to pay less, we trust you to make that call. Read more about our approach in the Journal.

    Sharing the Knowledge

Herbal knowledge belongs to everyone. We're committed to sharing what we learn — about plants, about formulation, about the traditions we draw from — openly and freely.

Our Journal features trail notes, herbal deep-dives, and reflections on outdoor practice. We're not gatekeeping expertise; we're contributing to a living tradition that predates commerce and will outlast any single company.
